I have done Fractional CO2 Laser many times. I have tried CO2 Lasers from different clinics and I have also tried Fraxel CO2 laser. All my laser treatments have been done in Singapore so far. I have yet to try any laser treatments in Europe.

You can read some of my past Fractional CO2 Laser treatments here :

There are many forms of lasers in the market in Singapore. Different doctors uses different types of CO2 Fractional machines and while Fraxel CO2 lasers are the most ablative i.e the ones that create the most results, Fraxel CO2 lasers also cause the longest downtime and have a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ON FRAXEL CO2 LASER TREATMENTS

I tried the Fraxel CO2 lasers once and the downtime was at least 3 weeks for me. On the 1st and 2nd day after Fraxel laser treatment, my face was red and slightly burnt. By the 3rd and 4th day post treatment, scabs started to form and I am able to see lots of white head and pimples. On the 5th and 6th day, I am able to see prominent brown scabs and my skin felt very raw. During the downtime of Fraxel Laser, I felt very unhappy as it was very painful. On the 7th to 10th day, some of the scabs started to flake off and I still had lots of white head. By the 14th day, the scabs were almost 65% gone, but my face was still pink and slightly swollen. To be honest, by the second week, I started to regret going for Fraxel Laser Treatments. On the 16th day post treatment, I was able to apply a tinted moisturiser and head out. On the 18th day, I was able to apply full make-up, but my skin still felt sensitive and a bit painful. The long down time really turned me off. The redness only totally went away on 20th day. The results were pretty mediocre and so I did not blog in detail about this. My personal opinion is that Fraxel Laser Treatments did not suit me and I wouldn't want to ever do it again. The pain during the laser treatment and during the recovery was too much for me.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ON FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER TREATMENT

Fractional CO2 lasers has been in the market for more than 20 years. Fractional CO2 Laser is able to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and downtime significantly. Fractional CO2 laser uses a form of delivery system where the laser does not destroy the whole layer of outer skin. Instead, it delivers laser in point form in a grid formation. This leaves lots of healthy surrounding skin and yet allows the CO2 laser to penetrate into the dermis to produce new collagen and break/soften fibrosis in depressed scars. It helps reduce acne or surgical scars by penetrating the dermis to stimulate lots of collagen remodeling. It is an extremely effective way of delivering powerful and effective lasers deeper into the tissue without causing much harm and downtime, and is the best in technology to treat acne and surgical scars. Fractional CO2 Laser has a downtime of 5-6 days. By Day 4, you should be able to apply make-up and head out.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ON EDGE FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER TREATMENT

Edge Fractional CO2 Laser treatment is the latest evolution of laser-pulse. Edge Fractional CO2 Laser is the latest CO2 laser from Korea. Unlike usual CO2 lasers which are known to have a longer down time and could even be painful, this Edge Fractional CO2 Laser promises similar if not better results with a much shorter down time and guaranteed much less pain both during the procedure as well as during the recovery process.

Edge fractional CO2 can be used for mild-moderate depressed acne scars / pitted acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, pores, black heads, white heads, stretch marks, keloid scars, syringoma, comedones and skin tags.

Dr Gerard Ee told me that to get rid of my old acne scars, I needed to do the CO2 Laser treatment and Qswitch Laser treatments. You can read about my Qswitch Laser treatment here :  MY BATTLE WITH CYSTIC EMBEDDED ACNE PART 2

I went for a session of the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser treatment with Dr Gerard Ee on the 3 Feb 2015.

What exactly is Edge Fractional CO2 Laser and what can it do for your skin?

Here is a FAQ I prepared to help you understand more about the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser treatments:

1) What is Edge Fractional CO2 Laser?

Edge Fractional produces a high peak power for sustained periods. The ablation threshold is achieved very quickly and targeted tissue is ablated with limited thermal damage therefore reducing the patient's pain and downtime. Through sustainable high peak power, the Edge Pulse ablates tissue very quickly, leaving a VERY narrow and controlled zone of thermal damage. The Edge Fractional CO2 Laser delivers a strong power in a short time which allows deep skin ablation. The Edge Fractional CO2 Laser minimises the areas of heated spots therefore decreases the pain and scabs. The machine uses high peak power to deliver a deep thermal effect. The machine has a variety of spot sizes and therefore it is able to target comedones and skin tags. The Edge Fractional Co2 Laser minimises thermal damages to the skin and therefore avoids the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

2) How old must one be before they can go for this Edge Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment?

Suitable from their teenage years onwards.

3) Is the ethnicity a factor when going for the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment?

The Edge fractional CO2 is a brand new technology that minimizes the trauma to the skin yet maintaining results and is hence suitable for all skin types.

4) Are the results permanent?

Results after Edge fractional CO2 is permanent. The scars that have now been made less deep will remain so.

5) Will my lifestyle affect the results of the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment?

Skin care is after all a holistic approach. Taking care of your body is of course essential if you want to have good looking skin. Hydration, smoking, late night, stress etc can all affect how your skin looks and repairs itself. Proper skin care will maintain skin texture, keep wrinkles at bay and retain the radiance and texture that the fractional CO2 has caused.

6) What can I expect after undergoing the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment?

One can expect the face to be slightly red. There will be some scab formation on the 2nd day and on the 3rd day the scab will peel off. This is much faster than the traditional CO2 laser where one often can expect up to a week before the scabs come off.

7) Is there any specific skin care after undergoing the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment?

A recovery cream and an anti-biotic cream will be prescribed after the procedure. These cream only need to be applied on for the first 3 days. You can resume your normal skin care after that.

8) When can I put my make-up back on?

You can put make up back on from the 3rd day onwards. But I applied tinted moisturiser on the 1st day and 2nd day post treatment. I needed to go out and my face was NOT RED at all and I totally looked normal without much make-up on.

9) How many treatments do I need and what is the interval apart?

Most people need about 5 to 10 treatments of Edge Fractional CO2 laser treatments. The fractional CO2 laser session is done 1 month apart. It is highly recommended that you go for a consultation with Dr Gerard Ee so that he is able to tell you how many sessions you need.

10) Is there any other treatment that does not require so many sessions?

The Infini Fractional Radiofrequency is an alternative treatment that requires only about 1 to 4 treatments depending on severity. 1 Infini Fractional Radiofrequency roughly equals to about 4 Edge fractional CO2 laser treatment.

11) Is there a difference between fractional resurfacing ( Fraxel ) and Edge Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing?

It all depends on the type of laser used. Fraxel CO2 Laser is an erbium non-ablative fractional laser. It actually thins the skin by removing the first layer of the skin. The logic behind that is that the first layers has all the dead skin, pigments and removing the skin actually promotes the skin to repair and renew itself.

Edge Fractional CO2 laser on the other hand is an ablative fractional laser. Edge Fractional CO2 laser actually builds up collagen in the skin. It does not remove skin. Why you get a scab is because the laser beam penetrates through the skin to get to the dermis, to stimulate collagen. When more collagen is stimulated, the skin appears smoother with less wrinkles and improvements in any depressed or pitted scars.

12) Is this machine the best CO2 Laser Resurfacing laser treatment in Singapore?

The laser doctor is the one who can be the artist to the canvas of your face. I would highly recommend a doctor that can be trusted and I trust my face with Dr Gerard Ee.

13) I have a low pain threshold, am I suitable for this Edge Fractional CO2 Laser treatment?

A numbing cream is applied to your face before the treatment is adminstered to your face. Despite undergoing so many operations, I too have a low pain threshold. I felt that this laser treatment is the MOST painless compared to Fraxel CO2 laser and Fractional CO2 laser. If you are very very afraid of the pain, you can let Dr Gerard Ee know during your consultation. I am sure he has a solution for you.

14) What is the price of the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser ?

Currently the market rate for fractional CO2 laser is $650 per session. Currently, The Clifford Clinic allows one to buy 3 sessions get 2 free sessions. The price for 3 Sessions + 2 Free Sessions is $1900. This promotion is valid till further notice.

Here are some photos of my experience with the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment :

I did the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment on 3 February 2015.
This photo is taken before the laser is done. You can see my
open pores and old acne scars clearly.

In this photo, you can see that my old acne scars, open pores and
one new embedded cystic acne at my chin area. I would have to undergo
the AGNES acne treatment again. You can read more about my 1st experience with
AGNES acne treatment here : My Battle with Cystic Embedded Acne

A numbing cream was applied to my face 30 minutes
before the laser treatment is administered.

The Edge Fractional Laser Treatment is able to get rid of skin tags.
You can clearly see some skin tags on my upper cheek area. You would only need
1 session of the Edge Fractional Laser Treatment to totally get rid of your skin tags permanently.
Within minutes, my skin tags are totally gone!!!!

After pregnancy, I started having lots of skin tags all over my face.
I have a huge one circled in pink at the corner of my eye.
The Edge Fractional CO2 Laser treatment got rid of the skin tags for me.
If you are interested, you can also see that after my double eyelid surgery,
there are no scars at all on my eyelids.

Recovery Day 1 - Today my face looks abit red but feels ok. I noted that there is no pain at all.
In fact, I went to Zesty Kickz for a kickboxing class and I applied a tinted moisturiser.

Went for my kickboxing class and no one knew that I had CO2 laser done on my face at all.

Recovery Day 2 - On the second day after the Edge Fractional CO2 Laser treatment, my face looks totally NORMAL but feels like there are some scabs on it. If you look at me close-up, you would be able to see some scabs. But if you are not staring at me, you would not be able to notice anything at all. I brought my son out and also went to  Zesty Kickz  for my Shape N Tone class today. I only applied a tinted moisturiser when I went out.

RECOVERY DAY 2 and I could go out!!!!! Normally after
Fractional CO2 laser treatments, I would stay home for the first 4 days!!!

Recovery Day 3 - I had a long day today and
you can read about it here :

I went out the entire day and NO ONE could tell that
I had just undergone a laser treatment 3 days ago at all.
I only had a tinted moisturiser and eyeliner on.

Recovery Day 4 - I could apply make-up and attend events.
There are no more scabs at all. I only applied a thin layer of
tinted moisturiser + loose powder + eyeliner + mascara.

My lips looks extra SEXY here.... I will reveal my secret
to sexy lips in another blog post.

RECOVERY DAY 6 - Close-up and it is obvious that my pores are smaller than before.

VERDICT :

I am still on the route to flawless skin. People has been complimenting me when they see me face to face. My face looks clear and bright with make-up but I would still require 1 more treatment of AGNES acne treatment and a few more sessions of lasers to remove the last bit of scars and to minimise my pores. I would continue to update with close-up photos on my journey to flawless skin.

Call 6532 2400 and book your appointment with DR GERARD EE if you have acne scar problems. He would be able to help you get rid of acne scars and pigment and also achieve a more radiant and luminous skin.
