枸杞子 gou qi zi are a rich source of zeaxanthin, a carotenoid that when consumed becomes concentrated in the macular pigment of the eye and can help protect the retina. 枸杞子 gou qi zi is known to be a source of antioxidant; it helps regulate the blood levels of glucose, insulin, triglycerides, and cholesterol. 枸杞子 gou qi zi also protects one's DNA and slows the growth and spread of cancer cells. It enhances one's immune functions as well as stimulates your skin's metabolism.

Milk helps you to achieve a milky-white skin color and create and maintain a baby-soft and blemish-free complexion. Milk is rich in proteins, which is vital for building healthy skin cells and milk helps to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your skin. Milk contains lactic acid which a natural AHA which helps to deep cleanse and remove one's dead skin cells. Milk is also full of vitamins and minerals to help keep your skin healthy and prevent premature aging.

Benefits of this mask :

BITTER GOURD + ALOE VERA FACIAL MASK

I got this recipe from a lady in korea who was in her 60s but look no more than 38. She claimed that this recipe helped her with her acne skin and is good for anti-aging as well I have been using this recipe for the past 2 years and after confirming its effects, I wanted to share it with you peeps! =)))

The original recipe was using korean honey. I upgraded the recipe and added manuka honey. If you are not particular, any honey will do as most honey contains lots of natural enzymes that are good for your skin.

Manuka honey is particularly good with acne.

Ingredients needed for this mask :
1) 5 slices of bitter gourd -- remove the seeds no need to remove the skin.
2) 1 stalk of fresh aloe vera -- remove the skin and wash clean. ( Be friends with neighbours who have green fingers so you can kope some from them or buy them at the supermarket.)
3) 1 teaspoon of manuka honey.

Bitter gourd is a popular vegetable in some Asian countries, where the health benefits of the plant are well-known—particularly, its ability to lower blood glucose in diabetics. It is a rich source of anti-oxidants, fiber, and vitamin C (presenting 55% of total vitamins in bitter melon) which help the body to fight against free radicals and aging process and detoxify the body. And it is well-known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-infective effects.

Aloe Vera is well known as a beauty tool. Aloe vera helps minimize inflammation and infection of cystic acne. Regular usage of aloe vera also helps prevent pesky pimples and treat stubborn acne. It helps you get rid of rosacea and even eliminates eczema. Aloe Vera prevents scarring and stretch marks; brightens skin and decreases pigmentation and dark spots.

Do you know that the aloe vera produces at least six natural antiseptics, which are able to kill mold, bacteria, funguses, and viruses? Even the queen of beauty --- Cleopatra applied the gel to her body as part of her beauty regimen; even the ancient Greeks used Aloe vera to cure everything from baldness to insomnia.

Manuka Honey has natural antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties. However, Manuka Honey has a second antibacterial component which has become known as the Unique Manuka Factor or UMF. Scientists have reason to believe that the 2 antibacterial components have a synergistic action.

Benefits of this mask :
Kills bacteria , deep cleansing , acne and pimple prevention because this concoction contains alot of lactobacillus which helps cure acne, provides thorough skin nourishing, whitening, moisturizing, whitening and sedating sensitive skin.

How to make the mask :

Place all the ingredients -- the 5 slices of bitter gourd, aloe vera and 1 teaspoon of honey into your blender. Blend thorough till you get a smooth consistency.

While your concoction is blending, use your clarisonic cleansing system or a good scrub to thoroughly clean your face.

Apply the mixture to cleansed face.

Rest for 15 mins and then rinse off with water.

Pat on toner and moisturiser.

Recommended to use once a week for best results.

I use this mask twice a month, it is especially good to prevent outbreaks due to menses.
***** Safe for pregnant or lactating mums.

GRAPES + RED WINE FACIAL MASK

I got this recipe from the same lady in korea. She said this mask helps with shrinking pores and maintaining youth! Also, because this recipe contains alcohol, it is not suitable for skin allergic to alcohol or ultra sensitive skin.

The original recipe was using korean honey. I upgraded the recipe and added manuka honey. If you are not particular, any honey will do as most honey contains lots of natural enzymes that are good for your skin.

Manuka honey is particularly good with acne.

Ingredients needed for this mask :
1) 2 teaspoon of red wine -- remember to choose a good brand of red wine as this is going on your skin!
2) 1 handful of grapes -- any color grapes is fine.
3) DIY paper mask -- purchase this from any watson's or guardian pharmacy.
4) Manuka honey or any honey you prefer.

Red wine is loaded with antioxidants that are beneficial for your skin and red wine is filled with the antioxidant called Resveratrol. Resveratrol works to providing you anti-aging benefits, making your skin appear more youthful and firm by minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.

Pure honey is loaded with anti-microbial properties and is a natural antioxidant. Honey fights microbial infections that cause acne without irritating your skin. Honey also pulls out impurities from your pores that would normally stay clogged, festering bacteria that causes pimples. It will also help restore your skin’s texture and reduce damage done to your skin by the sun and daily environments you come in contact with.

Grapes are also filled with alpha-hydroxy acids - the ingredient found in many skin firming and anti-wrinkle creams. Grapes contaiin malic acid and grapes also increases the level of gamma delta T cells in the body. These cells help the immune system fight off viruses and bacteria.

Benefits of this mask :
Grape seed is rich in nutrients, "polyphenols" and its anti-aging ability is 50 times that of vitamin E, and 25 times of vitamin C, while the low concentration of acid in red wine have an anti-wrinkle cleansing effect.

Anti-aging, removal of dead skin cells, moisturising and tightening effects.

How to make the mask :
Combine the three ingredients in the blender and blend well. Once you are done blending together, pour the mixture in a bowl and place a brand new clean facial paper mask sheet into the bowl for 1 minute.

While your concoction is being absorbed into the paper mask sheet, use your clarisonic cleansing system or a good scrub to thoroughly clean your face.

Ensure the facial paper mask sheet is thoroughly soaked with the mixture then apply the face mask to your cleansed face and pat remainder to your neck. Leave on for 20-25 minutes then rinse off with warm water and gently pat dry with a soft hand towel. Follow with an oil-free moisturizer on your face and neck.

Recommended to use once a week.

I use this mask once a week too as it is easy to make. =)
***** Not recommended for those with super super sensitive skin or those who are allergic to alcohol. Not recommended for pregnant or lactating mums.
